Cynthia Baby Bears Educator

2012 will be my 17th year working as an educator and my 11th year working for the SSMU Daycare. I graduated from Vanier College in 1997 with an Attestation in Early Childhood Education. I started a degree at Concordia which I would like to finish one day, but for now I am content on focusing my extra energies on raising my 4year-old. I have worn many hats in the field, from working as an educator with each age group, to being a coordinator and then director.  Now having had the opportunity to help start up the Nursery, I feel most at home because I get to be a part of seeing eight little people grow from tiny babies to toddlers. Early childhood is so important because it “is the most intensive period of brain development during the lifespan.”  That is quite an amazing thing to witness and I feel honoured to experience and help facilitate that every day.

Helen Baby Bears Educator

I always knew that I would somehow end up working with young children since I often played the role of “school teacher” with my siblings.  I graduated from Vanier College with a DEC in Early Childhood Education, and I have had the great pleasure of working at the SSMU Daycare for nearly six years.  I spent three years in the Teddy Bears class and have now been with the Baby Bears for two and a half years.  As I spent time working in a daycare, I saw the positive effect I could have on a child’s life.  I could share a kind word or a gentle hug for the child who missed their parents, and could also experience the joy of seeing a child grow and develop.  I feel that I can recognize the needs of a child, be it emotional or mental, and then fulfill that need. I’m currently working on completing a certificate in Inclusive Education at McGill.  I feel it’s incredibly important for me to connect with the children and parents, and I can honestly say that I love coming to work.

Maggie Baby Bears & Substitute Educator

I have been working in the field of Early Childhood Education for 30 years in a variety of positions. My primary employment has been working with children between the ages of 4 months to 5 years of age, mostly in workplace child care centers. I was also the Interim Director at CPE McGill for one year, and now divide my time between working at the Nursery, teaching ECE courses at Vanier College, and supervising students doing their fieldwork placements in centres across the island of Montreal. I started working on completing my Masters in Child Studies a few years ago, but due to my hectic work schedule I have put my studies on hold in order to focus on my career.

Sharli-Ann Daycare Educator (floater)

Hi! I have always known that I wanted to work in a daycare setting.  I was lucky enough to get a chance to volunteer at the SSMU Daycare here in 2005 after graduating high school. I was added to the staff shortly after as a replacement educator, and then was added on as full-time member of the team. I am in the process of studying Early Childhood Education at Champlain College.  I spend time in both the Cuddly Cub and Teddy Bear classrooms and love them both equally.  I adore taking pictures of the children and being able to display them for all parents to see.

Norma Teddy Bears Educator

My name is Norma and I’m originally from Mexico.  I’ve been working at the SSMU Daycare for 9 years now and I have had a truly wonderful experience working in both the Cuddly Cubs and Teddy Bears classrooms.  I completed my attestation in Early Childhood Education from Vanier College.  I have enjoyed and continue to look forward to working with the children, families, and staff here at the Daycare.  In my spare time, I love spending quality time with my family and friends.  I very much enjoy yoga and fitness in general, and like watching and taking long walks.

Janet Teddy Bears Educator

My name is Rebecca, but I am better known to all of you as Janet.  I am originally from Trinidad & Tobago. I have been involved with working with children from the age of 12, and I have been working in daycares for the past 25 years.  I completed my attestation in Early Childhood Education at Vanier. For the past nine years, I have worked at the SSMU Daycare caring for your children.  I love my chosen career and particularly love working here.  I have had a great experience collaborating with my colleagues and meeting all the Daycare families over the years.   In my spare time, I love spending time outdoors, cooking, baking, attending church, taking care of my family, and spending time with my grandchildren.  I love music, dancing, and I am part of a bowling team.

Michelle Cuddly Cubs Educator

SSMU has been my home away from home for past few years. I initially began at the daycare as a stagier, and was fortunate enough to later become a Cuddly Cub educator. I have a D.E.C. in Child Studies from Dawson College, followed by two Bachelor Degrees, one in Child Studies and the other in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Concordia University. In my time away from the daycare, I am a wife and a proud mother of three children – a five, four, and thirteen month old.

Cecilia Cuddly Cubs Educator

My name is Cecilia and I was born in Taiwan. I graduated from Concordia University in 2007 with a degree in Child Studies. I am always looking for new ways to improve my knowledge of children and the ways they develop. I have been working in childcare field for about 4-5 years. I speak many languages including English, Spanish, French and Chinese Mandarin. I grew up in a large family, and having been one of the oldest, I have a natural connection to children and have always cared for them growing up. I feel fortunate to work at the daycare where I have had the opportunity to bond and care for all the children.

Sandra Substitute Educator

I am a recent graduate from Vanier College in Early Childhood Education. I have been working as a substitute teacher at the Daycare since March 2011.   In my spare time I like to read, do crossword puzzles, and take long walks with my dog. I also enjoy spending time with my niece and 3 nephews.

Aline. Manager

I have been at the SSMU daycare since November 2013.  I am a qualified educator and have been working in daycare for 25 years.  In the last ten years I transitioned over to daycare manager.  I am passionate about children and providing a loving, nurturing daycare space for them.  I believe that children learn through play and that we must all work together to provide the best care possible for the child.
